Photographic makeup for a Commercial shoot
Commercial makeup is usually seen in advertisement and is used to help sell a product. This kind of makeup tends to enhance natural beauty and as an MUA you must make sure you aren't drawing attention away from the product that the brand is trying to promote.
I was given a brief to create a makeup look suitable for a black and white commercial photoshoot. There are a number of considerations that needed to be taken into account when doing makeup for a photoshoot. Because of studio lighting and camera flashes, it is important to always avoid products that contain titanium dioxide as this ingredient is what causes flashback and ghosting which is when makeup appears washed out / faded. As studio lighting produces a lot of heat, it is essential to use powder to set makeup as this will make the makeup more long lasting, preventing the model from sweating it off. It is always handy to have a powder kept nearby for any touchups that may need to be made during the photoshoot. When applying the makeup, it is necessary to apply thicker and more generously than you would with normal makeup because the studio lighting can make everything appear less vivid therefore applying more will counteract this. With black and white photoshoots, any products of colour will need to be applied heavier too as this will mean they will show up more on the finished image, an example of this is applying more excessive contour in order to make sure the face appears structured and defined on the b&w image...
