MAKEUP WITHIN THE FASHION INDUSTRY...

Fashion is a form of expression that is seen everyday, everywhere, as fashion industry is so diverse and varied, with millions of new and old trends emerging worldwide. Makeup artistry is closely linked with fashion as it is also a form of expression which plays a huge part with creating and completing certain looks in the fashion world. Makeup is used within fashion to compliment the outfit choice/to fit within a certain theme to portray a certain image. In this blog post I am going to talk about the many different styles of makeup that are involved within fashion…

Photographic…

This style of makeup is seen a lot in the fashion industry within fashion books and magazines as the makeup will be used to compliment the outfit that the fashion designer has produced. The makeup artist must design a look that is going to be suitable for photography and ensure that the fashion designers expectations are met. When a makeup artist is applying makeup for a photographic shoot they need to consider factors that could alter how the makeup looks in the final image, such as lighting and flashback caused by products containing titanium oxide.

Avant Garde…

Avant Garde makeup plays a big part within the fashion industry as it is unique and experimental which means the overall look will stand out and be memorable. Fashion Designers may request for a makeup artist to create an Avant Garde style of makeup in order for the overall look to be as distinctive as possible, as they will have mostly paired the makeup with an equally eccentric outfit. Many fashion magazines include images of looks involving Avant Garde makeup as they are the most extraordinary looks that people never forget.

Editorial ...

Editorial makeup is mostly used on the runway and within magazines and these looks are completely different to everyday makeup. Editorial makeup is often used to tell a story or represent a certain feeling through the appearance of the finished look and a way a makeup artist may portray feelings is through the colours they choose to incorporate within their look… for example; dark, muted colours and tones could be used to reflect misery, whilst bright, vibrant shades are used to illustrate excitement and satisfaction. An important aspect of editorial makeup is the way the skin appears. The makeup artist will be expected to create the most flawless looking skin, free of blemishes and imperfections. In order for a makeup artist to create this immaculate base, they will need to have a good understanding of skin types and how to choose products that are appropriate for the models skin. It is also important that the makeup artist gives structure and dimension to the models face by using contour to define areas of the face such as cheekbones and jawline.
