Editorial Makeup inspired by Alexander McQueen

I was given a creative brief to create an Alexander McQueen inspired Editorial Makeup look that would fit the following themes; Floral, Tribal and Rainforest.
I began to do research on Alexander McQueen and Editorial makeup looks, alongside the themes I had been given. This research gave me a lot of inspiration, helping me to design a suitable look that touched on all three themes.
The look I created consisted of a pink smokey eye on the eyelid, with a shimmery green look on the lower lashline. I wanted to create a grungey look, similar to Alexander McQueens work, therefore I felt this eye look fit in nicely. I chose to use pink and green to tie in with the colours on the floral headband. The colour green is also associated with rainforests and nature, so this ensured I was sticking within my themes. I finished the eye look by lining the waterline with a black liner, to emphasise the grungey affect and added false lashes and mascara. For the lips, I decided on a shimmery green, similar to that on the eyes, as I wanted the look to come together. Using a white eyeliner, I added details to the face inspired by the tribal makeup that I did my research on. To enhance and finalise the look, I used the white liner to add some faux freckles around the nose area. I didn’t want to create a look that was too overwhelming, therefore I decided to add subtle details (such as the colour choices, floral headband, and tribal details) which allowed to me to cover the three themes.
I started applying the makeup on my model at around 9am and finished at 10:30am, therefore the look took me approximately an hour and a half. I felt like I managed my time effectively and overall I am happy with the look I created in this time frame as the look did meet my expectations.
During the makeup application, it took me a couple of attempts at applying the faux freckles with the white eyeliner, as I felt they was too large the first time round and I was aiming for a finer, more subtle look. I then went on to correct them, making them smaller by using a finer brush, and I was much happier with the result. This is something I would definitely consider if I were to re-create this makeup look, and from this experience I have learnt how to adapt a look in the future if a similar situation was to occur.
Overall I am satisfied with the look I created as I think it met the creative brief and included all three themes, whilst being inspired by Alexander McQueen’s work.
